Summary

Nur does not operate a custom backend or user database. The website runs in your browser and uses third-party APIs for prayer times and city search.

What we store

Local storage on your device: theme preference, last city name, coordinates, calculation settings, and cached prayer times.
Nothing is sent to a Nur-owned server because none exists.

Third-party services

When you use Nur, your browser may contact:

Aladhan API to calculate prayer times from latitude, longitude, method, and date.
OpenStreetMap Nominatim to search city names and coordinates.
Bunny Fonts to load typography (Instrument Sans).

These services have their own privacy policies. Nur does not control their data handling.

City data

Nur does not request GPS or device location access. You can search by city instead.

Calculation Methodology

How times are calculated

Nur uses the free Aladhan Prayer Times API, which implements standard Islamic prayer time formulas based on the sun's position.

Calculation methods

JAKIM - Malaysia's official Islamic authority method.
MWL - Muslim World League.
ISNA - Islamic Society of North America.
Umm Al-Qura - commonly used in Saudi Arabia.
Egyptian - Egyptian General Authority of Survey.
Karachi - University of Islamic Sciences, Karachi.

Asr calculation

Shafi'i, Maliki, and Hanbali schools use the standard shadow length. Hanafi uses double shadow, resulting in a later Asr time.

Accuracy

Times may differ from your local mosque due to rounding, high-latitude adjustments, or local custom offsets. When in doubt, follow your local authority.

Geocoding

City search uses OpenStreetMap Nominatim. For production-scale traffic, use a geocoding proxy or hosted provider.
