Summary
Qamar does not operate a custom backend or user database. The website runs in your browser and uses third-party APIs for prayer times and city search.
What we store
- Local storage on your device: theme and language preferences, selected location and coordinates, submitted city-search cache, calculation settings, calendar labels, cached prayer times, and Quran reading position.
- Nothing is sent to a Qamar-owned server because none exists.
Third-party services
When you use Qamar, your browser may contact:
- WaktuSolat API for official Malaysian zone-based prayer times.
- Aladhan API for prayer times outside the Malaysian zone system. Requests may include coordinates, calculation method, and date.
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim to convert a city search into a location and coordinates.
- Quran.com and Quran CDN to load Surah information, verses, and translations.
- Quran Foundation to load Quran typefaces.
- Bunny Fonts to load typography (Instrument Sans).
These services receive your IP address as part of normal internet requests. Search terms are sent to OpenStreetMap Nominatim, and coordinate-based prayer requests send latitude and longitude to Aladhan. These services have their own privacy policies; Qamar does not control their data handling.
City data
Qamar requests device location only after you choose Auto-Locate Me. The browser asks for permission first. The coordinates are used on your device to find the nearest Malaysian prayer zone and are saved locally for your selected location. You can use city search or select a zone without granting device-location access.

Calculation Methodology
How times are calculated
For Malaysian zones, Qamar uses schedules supplied by the WaktuSolat API, based on official JAKIM zone data. For global city searches, Qamar uses the Aladhan Prayer Times API, which applies established calculation conventions to the selected coordinates and date.
Calculation methods
- JAKIM - Malaysia's official Islamic authority method.
- MWL - Muslim World League.
- ISNA - Islamic Society of North America.
- Umm Al-Qura - commonly used in Saudi Arabia.
- Egyptian - Egyptian General Authority of Survey.
- Karachi - University of Islamic Sciences, Karachi.
Asr calculation
Shafi'i, Maliki, and Hanbali schools use the standard shadow length. Hanafi uses double shadow, resulting in a later Asr time.
Accuracy
Times may differ from your local mosque due to rounding, high-latitude adjustments, or local custom offsets. When in doubt, follow your local authority.
Malaysian zones and global calculations
Zone selection uses the published schedule for that Malaysian zone, so changing the calculation-method setting does not override its official timetable. Global searches calculate times from coordinates using the method and Asr setting you select.
Geocoding
City search uses OpenStreetMap Nominatim with submit-only, rate-limited, locally cached requests. Larger deployments should use a geocoding proxy or hosted provider.
